A good way to build authority and search engine rankings for your site is through article directories. They usually don’t generate a lot of traffic, but they do provide quality one-way links back to your site, and there’s always the possibility of the articles becoming popular and generating direct traffic. The two biggest directories are www.goarticles.com and www.ezinearticles.com. These are the best in terms of quality and what they allow, but there are hundreds of others to choose from. If you’re interested, you can check out this list of about 2200.
So what are the benefits, and what do you have to do? First of all, Don’t submit any article that aren’t quality. You don’t want your name on something that isn’t good work. Another thing you DON’T want to do is submit duplicate content, especially stuff you haven’t written. This is bad for your article, and just bad all-around. So don’t just copy other’s material. One useful technique that I’ve found and utilized when I don’t have the time or I don’t want to take the effort to write an article from scratch is this: Find an article that looks good, read it over and make sure it has some good content. Then you cut and paste the article into Google Translator, and translate it into German (you don’t have to do German, I’ve just made a habit of using it because I’ve found it goes back into English smoothest). Once you’ve got it in German, copy it again, and translate it back to English. Go through the article and clean it up, because translator doesn’t always do a great job of going into smooth English.
Make sure that in all your articles you link back to your site, preferably with a hypertext link. If the article site doesn’t accept HTML, then just paste in your URL. This will ensure you get at the least a quality one-way link back to your site. And as any competent Internet Marketer knows, quality one way links are what paves the road to number one Google listings.

Good list of article sites. Having quality content article posts is key. Also, you have to be patient. The more articles you post, the more views and backlinks that you will attain. Be patient, and make sure to post quality information that people can benefit from. If people benefit from your article they are more likely to continue reading your content and to click through to your website.

I’ve found that focusing on quality over quantity works best.
Articles are a good way to get backlinks BUT they must be well written, well researched and well presented. Lots of people just pump out poorly written stuff to get backlinks.

Do you hire a team and if so what kind of a wage would you pay them to do the work? Very useful information. Article submission is one of the best and easiest (If you have the original articles off course) to market your business, site or anything you want seen by others on the internet. And the best part I think is that it’s free.
The worst part it takes a lot of time and due to everybody spamming and littering the internet it gets hard for serious marketers to submit anything and have it accepted.
That’s the bad part but ones you have them up and running is great.

Also, FYI some article directories add “nofollow” tags to all links within the body of your article so make sure you check before you submit! You can usually get a dofollow link from the resource box though!

I agree with some other commenters that this just doesn’t seem to work well anymore. I think it’s become oversaturated. The last submissions I made to ezinearticles got picked up by only unethical people (or spiders) who didn’t link back to me, linked to the ezinearticles page itself, or linked to completely unrelated sites using their own keywords. It annoyed me so much I moved on!

Most people FAIL when it comes to writing quality articles. If you take a few minutes to read through some articles on any of the major article directories it is quite obvious that many of the articles submitted are spun off of existing articles and are not easy to read.
Articles must be of QUALITY! If you can do that just submit and users will take care of the rest

First of all article submission requires good and fresh content. To submit a article, there are some rules to follow as bellow :
1. Article content should be minimum 500 character.
2. In about author you can put maximum 3 links.

Sounds like we’re all on the same page with Article Marketing. Yes, they can be great if you write enough of them (or have them written) and they are good quality.
I recommend optimising for just one keyword term per article, including the keyword in the anchor text of the link that takes visitors to your site or blog. Also, don’t end the article too ‘finally’. Leave the reader in the air and complete the article in the first line of the resource box.

The point is that we need strongly take into account the essential difference between “Directories” contains articles category and specialised article directories, better say “Articles agregators sites”. Directories with articles category mostly does not allow to put any links anywhere – not in article as well as in profile. But Articles agregators allows insert links in profile and sometimes in articles body. So, no doubt that articles without inserted links are absolutely useless and we call safely tell – this is “Monkey business”
Good Articles agregators are about 250-300 pcs. Not much, but very effective, i swear !
And better to create 5-10 unique articles, sinonymized them and submit into 250-300 agregators, than synonymize one article and submitt it into 1-2-3 000 absolutely useless links directories.

Article directories are fine but lately a lot of these sites are adding the do not follow tag to the articles making it difficult to get any link juice.

Personally, I love ezinearticles. I have followed the advice here and it does work.
One other thing I’d add is to make your the you submit articles with good SEO. It all helps. If you can get your article ranked high, you have a chance of generating some traffic.
I used the technique but after translation from german back to english the article is as good as the orignal.

Having read a lot of articles many are badly written and some have been very obviously translated without any appreciation of how it actually reads when finished – they obviously didn’t translate from German!
There are many article submission sites online these days. So many actually that it is difficult to make the choice of which ones to submit your article to.

I personally have use ezine to post my content in the past and can confirm it really does work, Wikipedia works as well, but you have to spend time becomming an authority before you can post a link without them cancelling your post.

The problem with the translation method is that you end up putting a bunch of crap articles on the web. And ultimately the link juice from your articles will fade. You are better off putting one good quality original article on a high PR website. You will get much more link juice if you do it that way.

Interesting, although I think Google will try to avoid giving link juice for many of these “duplicate” articles and their links in the future, as they often have no or little value to the users. Probably through semantics, but maybe also through their own dictionary and translate tools, they might be able to see which original article it is a duplicate from, unless it is rewritten properly with a manuel human editing.
Article Submission really helps SEO but things should be considered, no plagiarism.

Your blog is a very good read. I would also advise the following. When backlinking make sure to link a trusted source. I know that getting backlinks is important, but I’m unsure how to include them on the different article promotion sites like ezine. I like the bit regarding not having to write articles over and over again by using the Google translator.

I have read from multiple sources that article submission is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your site. However, I also read that it is important for the links to be on pages that are relevant to your site. I have a great deal of difficulty with this because my site Lookout Bail Bonds Stafford VA</A is a bail bonding site and it is EXTREMELY difficult to find much of ANY web content about bail bonds that is not simply another bail bonding company.
Of course good articles and good content inside the article are necessary if you want to have even more success .

I find that just reading articles on a not to difficult subject and after that writing a new article from scratch from the memory of those just read articles is a good way to do it. U dont have to come up with new ideas and content for the article, u just have to speed read one or two articles, and then write a new one from your memory. Easy and fast, and better to read and understand than a translated article

Sure, some sites refuse to list any content that’s not unique, but generally speaking, there’s no need to spin your articles and go through the translation hassles. You still get the backlink even from duplicate content; As for SEO, that really depends on such a huge number of factors that worring about duplicate content should be last on your list.

Thanks for the tips. Squidoo lenses have good page rank and are fun to make. And they have the advantage of allowing you to be blatantly salesy. With some article sites you can only be salesy in your bio area.

Ezine is very strict nowadays, if you submit article, you have to wait for a week for them to be approved. Thanks for the information.
The frustrating thing is when you’re just getting set up – the articles take days sometimes weeks to be approved – even with very high quality written pieces. I wish there was a quicker way for them to be approved.

I wrote many articles around the holidays regarding toys that are hot items and have gotten more than 1,000 views on 3 articles which is pretty neat. Duplicate content isn’t very good. You should rather translate it manually into your own known language, rather than Google Translate.
