10 Great Link Building Strategies

- Invest In General Directories:
Directory links are authority links, and can be foundational to a link building campaign. Submit to the following directories in order of importance: DMOZ, free; Yahoo Directory, $299 annually; Best of the Web, $99.95 annually; Business.com, $299 annually; GoGuides, $69.95; and JoeAnt, $39.99. Though many people have minimized the value of directories they are still solid links from authority sites.
- Submit to Niche Directories:
Niche directories are a source of authority links that are more tailored to your niche, and thus making them very valuable links. Try search “your keyword phrase directory” and see whats available in your niche.
- Create Social Media Profiles:
Social media profiles can quickly show up in SERPs for your keywords making them very valuable. While most social media site do not pass on page rank they are nevertheless valuable marketing tools to drive visitors to your site.
- SERP Link Building:
Pages that rank well for specific keywords are some of the most important links you can get. Search your keyword phrases and look for ways to get a link. Some things to consider do they have a submission process, can you guest blog for them, comment on their site, ask them for a link.
- Write Authority Articles and Market Them:
Using the Google Keyword Tool research what people are looking for in your area of expertise then write an authority article on that subject. Next look for places to submit the article to. Consider Squidoo, Ezinearticles.com, articlesbase.com, and helium.com. Don’t forget to broadcast the article to all your followers in the social media realm.
- Submit Press Releases
Submitting press releases remains one of the quickest ways to gain links quickly. Writing a successful press release requires some planning. Don’t just write about your product or service, but what about your product, or service, or you is newsworthy. Find a newsworthy angle make sure it is polished, spellchecked, etc, and submit it to services like: PRWeb, BusinessWire or PRleap.com.
- Submit to Dofollow Social Bookmarking Sites
There are still alot of social bookmarking sites that provide dofollow links. We at the Masters use http://socialmarker.com so sign up for all the services on it, and it allows you to submit your posts one after another.
- Become a Guest Blogger:
Looking for high PR links craft some well written post, and contact high traffic, high PR blogs in your niche, and pitch your post. This will do two things first it will gain you visibility on an authority site giving you street credit, and traffic. Secondly it will gain you links on high PR blogs in your niche.
- Share Your Insights Through Commenting:
Share insightful comments is useful on a variety of levels. First of all if its a dofollow comment you will get a good link from that site. In addition to that though a well worded comment can build relationships with other bloggers, and drive traffic to your site which will eventually lead to more links.
- Contribute Something Useful
Contribute something useful to the internet community, and they will bless you with links. Write a Joomla or WordPress plugin and submit it to the plugin directories. Write an extremely useful boilerplate template for instance a sample seo proposal and give it away to sites that have templates. Design a free template for WordPress or other platforms, and put your link in the footer.

Thanks for the advice. I have been doing some article marketing and it is a good way to promote your site while earning some money on the side. I haven’t been able to bring myself to pay $299 per year for the Yahoo! directory yet and DMOZ takes forever. Gotta think long term…

Its hard to find relevant blogs on which to leave comments that have a high ranking !
This is all good stuff. If you find a solution, even just a workaround, to a common niche problem then eventually the solution you post in your blog will become an authority and you will get links here as well.

I must agree that niche directories are an excellent way to build links and can also provide some good traffic if the directory has a good pagerank or traffic source.

great extensive list. Another good source of high-quality links are using google to find .edu and .gov links. I usually search for “leave a comment” + niche keywords. It’s not perfect, but it works. Good job to outsource.

One important thing you need to put in mind, when building link is relevant, the best way to get result for your link building is to get links from only quality website and blogs that are relevant to your website or blog.

You have a point there, but will it be very suspicious if you only link your site to a relevant site without at least linking it to other site? I mean it would be very easy for search engines to know that you are just taking advantage of the process.
Article marketing is a one of the best ways to build quality links. Although it takes some time and efforts, the results are well worth it. In my opinion submitting to directories can also bring results, but it is still far from the other methods.

I think becoming a Guest Writer is the best way. I have been Guest writer for a good PR website and that website alone helped me in improving PR for my website.
This is very important information for me to build my site. Only Building links isn’t good. But, in order to rank well in the search engines, it is absolutely necessary.

SEO is a slow and tedious process…this list is enough to keep anyone busy for a long time.
Regarding the Yahoo directory submission, I’ve been thinking about it but $300 a year seems expensive. Can anyone share their experience with whether or not it’s worth the $300/year?

Yahoo and DMOZ are a must have but, the other directories mean nothing unless they are in your niche. I believe Google has discounted the general directories.

I think that making and sharing wordpress templates is one of the best link building strategies ever! You can make at least one template per day and thousands of people could use it on their websites – this can give you a whole bunch of links!

Link building is a big thing and today competition is wider. So, according to me, there are so many ways to get a back links but from them blog commenting and forum posting gives permanent back links to your websites.
Then you can use Article submission, Directory submission, Bookmarking and PR submission to maintain your status.

I like the variety here, not what you find on every other SEO site. Currently implementing a few of your points.
This post has been somewhat of a revelation to me. I’m a little disillusioned about blogging (managing to deal with SEO while thinking of things people to read about seemed hard) and wasn’t too sure of where to go next. Then I realised something I should have known all along. My core readerbase come to me because they enjoy my light-hearted take on learning and want to be entertained. My brand of entertainment caters to their tastes because it’s the rawest form of my personality (I could walk past every reader tomorrow and they wouldn’t know who I was). A blog is a chance to express your feelings without having to worry about watering down your opinion or being someone you’re not.
I now realise that I need to focus more on being myself without putting the pressures of SEO (which is totally lost on me) and writing for different audiences on my shoulders. Maybe this will lead to the following I’m looking for.
That was great and is there any other methods by which we can build more links efficiently.
